The Benefits Of A Spiritual Awakening

By Catalina Nielsen

Defining a spiritual awakening is not a cut and dry situation. Every day people from all around the world and from all walks of life encounter moments in their life where their faith is tested or where they acquire faith for the first time. When this happens most people express that they have had an experience that has changed or challenged them in some way.

Consider how different each and every person in the world is. Consider how different you are from your friends and family. When considering these differences look at the fact that there is most likely not a single person in your life that thinks exactly the way you do, or believes exactly the way you do. That is why spirituality is such a personal experience. Each person will experience it on their own terms according to their own belief system and experience.

The problem with this is that many people grow frustrated because when they share their stories or experiences with others they don't feel that they truly understand where they are coming from. The fact of the matter is that they don't and most likely never will. For this to be possible they would have to share the exact experience with one another in the same manner. The chances of that taking place are slim to none.

Most people "live in their head" when it comes to spirituality. They understand the book aspect of their beliefs. They were raised to have specific beliefs or they simply believe what they have been taught or heard over the years. This is not spirituality. This is nothing more than habit.

A person who has a spiritual awakening no longer lives in their head. Instead they begin to feel things and see things in a different way. Their entire life can change for the better in a matter of moments. Though they may not completely understand what is occurring at the time, they will begin to see great changes in every aspect of their life.

Though there are many positive aspects involved in these types of awakenings there are also negative ones. Many people that have a spiritual awakening will use it in the wrong way. They attempt to force personal beliefs on others or will begin to do unmoral things in the name of their beliefs. These types of people have a very negative effect on those around them. They often times lose friends, family, and do things that are ill-advised. When this happens they can scare people away from learning more about their experience or from even wanting to have anything to do with it at all.

There is no denying the fact that people all around the world claim to have "awakenings". Even if you don't personally believe in such things there is no harm in allowing others to do so as long as they not hurting others or themselves.

There are many things in life that are a mystery and spirituality will always be one of them. Though you may not understand it there is no harm in allowing others to experience a spiritual awakening when positive changes are taking place.
